The Wrestling Club at UWM (Archived Site)

Official UWM Status:  Inactive

UWM's wrestling community is seeking new leadership for the fall '98 semester. Former president, Timothy Vercauteren, transferred to another school in California, and has urged our members to carry on his efforts to establish Club wrestling at UWM.

During 1996 and 1997, the Club gathered 30 male and female wrestlers, selected officers, an alumni advisor, and an honorary Captain. This website was established, a team uniform was designed, and efforts to secure a practice venue began.

Members of the Club worked as assistant coaches at three area high schools, attended scholastic and collegiate tournaments, and served as chaperons at the WIAA State Meet in Madison.

Donations, on behalf of the Club, were used to support teams at Shorewood High School, Milwaukee Lutheran High School, and the Milwaukee Ringers Wrestling Club, based at Marquette University.

With new leadership, we could:

• Promote the sport of amateur wrestling at UWM, and in the Milwaukee area
• Complete the work of securing insurance and a Club venue
• Provide organized wrestling training, practices, and matches
• Compete as a team in Collegiate and USA Wrestling Opens in our region
• Serve as a source of leadership to area high school teams and youth clubs
• Support Division I Athletics at UWM.

This Club will be:

• Open to any UWM student, staff or faculty
• Social as well as athletic
• Steered democratically, by majority rule member vote
